Demonstration projects are an invaluable way of involving communities in the process to develop transportation approaches that can immediately begin to enhance community life. They entail envisioning and implementation of small-scale improvements that can be accomplished in a short time within the community context.

They entail envisioning and implementation of small-scale improvements that can be accomplished in a short time within the community context. The following procedures are recommended for initiating a series of demonstration projects for making improvements to both the street level environment and transportation facilities, such as parking, directional and traffic signals changes, traffic calming, design enhancements, landscaping, amenities, new uses and community-responsive activities:
